Probably going to be my last submission for a long while...
Well its inevitable...a sword fight between Sokka and Zuko. A great time to see how good Sokka really is.
Took me a while to get the poses and perspective the way it is. I had actually sketched out quite a few different fighting positions. In the end though, I settled for something I could pull of nicely and had a certain level of dynamics.
Now this is a fight I'd love to see. Their expressions are so intense, I love their poses as well. The blending from Zuko's red side with the Fire Nation insignia to Sokka's blue side with the water tribe/white lotus symbol looks great. Great shading as well.
Yes I cant wait for the fight either! At first I was going to leave the background white but at the last minute the concept of the background came to me.
As far as the fight goes, I'd say if Zuko was able to win he'd only be able to do so once. Sokka picks up weapons combat crazy fast, and learns from every battle. He was able to learn more in one day than the butler did in who knows how many years. He has the skill, just not the flare yet. Also using one sword is actually advantageous. I have some sword fighting experience and I know that wielding a sword with one hand cost you severely in terms of speed and power. That's assuming that Zuko doesn't use bending. Sokka's good, but I don't think he's at the level where he could take down a bender without some environmental or equipment advantages.
That was probably more than you were looking for on a topic that had nothing to do with the art itself, so let me just say this is an outstanding piece. The shading is wonderful and I epically like your use of foreshortening, which is one of my own weak points. Art of this quality warrants a watch, So I look froward to seeing your future projects.
